What is the Ocean Acidification ?

Ocean acidification is a change in the properties of ocean water. The ocean is becoming more acidic because the water absorbs carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

What causes ocean acidification?

The human activities from cars and factories, release a gas called carbon dioxide into the air. Extra carbon dioxide can cause problems in the atmosphere, and it can also have an impact on the acidity of the ocean. Extra carbon dioxide gas in the atmosphere is absorbed by the ocean andmake it more acidic.

How is NASA studying ocean acidification?

One satellite called Orbiting Carbon Observatory-2 (OCO-2), collects information about carbon dioxide in our atmosphere while it circles Earth.

The pollution also provocate the coral bleaching.A coral reef is a large group of rocks on the ocean floor Coral reefs are very sensitive to light and temperature.

If coral reefs are too stressed, as in these conditions, they can expel the algae that live on them and turn completely white, and this phenomenon is called coral bleaching. However, they can survive bleaching by becoming more vulnerable.
NASA recently developed some very sensitive instruments to study coral reefs from an airplane flying above the ocean.
The COral Reef Airborne Laboratory (CORAL) uses an instrument called the Portable Remote Imaging Spectrometer to see the condition.
To solve the problem we have the blue economy. Blue Economy is an innovative economic development model that aims to revolutionize our production activities and eliminate polluting emissions. Oceans, lakes, seas and rivers represent an extraordinary heritage for the whole of humanity, so they must be protected
