OUR town
Serón is a charming village located within the province of Almeria, Andalucia in southern Spain. It is positioned between the mountains of Sierra Filabres and the Mediterranean sea. There is a population of ~2,000 people. Serón is famous for its production of cured ham (jamon serrano) and goat cheese, and it even hosts the Feria de Jamon every June. You can visit www.turismoseron.es . To pass time outside of the school, there are dancing, kick-boxing, cooking, and spanish classes, a rail trail “Via Verde,” hiking trails www.alltrails.com, a fully equipped gym with a range of exercise classes offered, 6 authentic spanish restaurants, and a history museum. Serón is also a bus ride away from the prominent cities of Almeria and Granada.
Transportation
By bus: www.alsa.es www.omio.es -To Granada:1,5 hours (daily) -To Almería: 2-3 times a week. By taxi: There is a private taxi you can use to go to/from Almería. (30€).Tlf:+34 629 46 95 89 From Serón: 6AM From Almería: 2PM By BlaBlaCar: www.blablarcar.es This a well-known ride-share application where you can split the cost of gas and travel with people already going to your destination. recommendations
- We recommend you rent a house in Serón. There is no daily public transport from bigger towns to Serón. Living in Seron is cheap, and you can safe money to travel at the weekends.
- It's very important to get in touch with other Auxiliares de Conversación living in nearby cities or towns. You can use the Auxiliares Facebook group or other Social Networks.
- It would also be very useful if you got in touch with other Auxiliares we have had previous years. Don't be shy to ask them whatever you need.
- At the beginning it could be tough to live in a small town like Serón, but don't worry, there are young people and many cities to visit at the weekends.
- The Auxiliares salary is not high, all Auxiliares we've had made some extra money teaching English in the afternoon. We can help you contact students.
Teaching goals
- To be responsible, punctual and respecful with students...
- To provide an example for the students and teachers of an English accent.
- To help to develop speaking skills in English: pronunciation, intonation...
- To collaborate with the teachers to prepare school materials. Always with the support of a teacher.
- To try to show Spanish teachers and students your culture, traditions...
- To get involved in the daily life of the school.
- Be patient with the english skills of the students: speak clearly, slowly, using formal words...
- To use English as much a possible, also with teachers. Even though you can speak Spanish,
- Spanish teachers of English have to be open-minded, and you also have to teach us to improve our English.
