Australia is situated in the southern hemisphere under the equator. It's the reason why it's nicknamed "The Land Down Under".
It's a country, an island and the smallest continent.
It's the largest country in the southern hemisphere and the largest country without land borders!
There are about 205 million inhabitants (2021) in Australia; 90% live in big cities and 30% of the population are foreigners.
There are four different types of kangaroos.
Western grey kangaroo
Red kangaroo
Eastern grey kangaroo
Antilopine kangaroo
There are 10 000 beaches!!!!
The country is devided into six states:
  1. Queensland (north east of Australia).
  2. New South Wales (south east).
  3. South Australia.
  4. Victoria (the smallest state).
  5. Western Australia.
  6. Tasmania (a small island).
The are also two territories:
  1. The northern territory.
  2. The Australian Capital territory.
Canberra is the capital city of Australia. Hobert is the capital of Tasmania and Lauceston is on the north coast of the small island. Melbourne is the main city of Victoria and Alice springs is in the middle of the counrty in the northern territory. Perth, which is famous for its beaches, is in South Australia. Brisbane is in Queenland as well as Cairns which is on the north coast. Adelaide is in south Australia and Darwin is in the north of the northern territory. Sydney is between Canberra and Brisbane.
The biggest city in Australia by surface is Brisbane however, Sydney is the biggest by population.
85% of the country is covered by a vast arid desert called the Outback.
Seasons are reversed in the southern hemisphere, so when it's winter in Europe, it's summer in the Land Down Under!
So when do Aussies celebrate Christmas?
