Speaking Strategies
In small groups (2 / 3 students) think about a situation when you had to speak up (e.g. oral exam at high school, job interview, speech in front of a large audience, personal talk with someone you didn’t know well). Try to remember details about that moment.
- Were you nervous / relaxed?
- Did you run out of words?
- Did you use gestures to express your ideas? What were the gestures you made?
- Did you forget specific words (vocabulary) you needed to get yourself understood?
- Could you keep the pace (rhythm when speaking)of the conversation / speech?
- Did the other people pay attention to you?
Think about characteristics of oral communication and ways to communicate orally in a successful way.
