Kindra Petersen traveled through the Yucatan peninsula in Mexico, Guatemala, and Belize in 2023. She chose Central/South America because so many of her students are from various countries in the south and she wanted first-hand experience with the community and culture Kindra’s travel company, G-Adventures, has a motto: G for Good-Change the world just by having the time of your life. When you travel with us, you become a force for good by acting responsibly and creating a positive impact. That she felt helped her feel much more like a traveler than a tourist. Her group had the opportunity to learn from members of the community who taught them about their towns and missions. Kindra’s highlights were swimming in the cenotes and jumping off platforms, and experiencing the nature that the individuals who live in those areas get to be so close to nature all the time. All three countries had their own unique and beautiful cultures—cultures that were vibrant, jovial, and very hospitable. Her advice to travelers “Do activities on your trip that you would never see yourself doing otherwise. I jumped from platforms into rivers and cenotes. I ate termites and crawled through aqueducts. I climbed who knows how many stairs on the days we visited Mayan ruins. I can't say I've ever dreamed of eating a termite, but I'm glad I have the video and the memories.”
