Maps

Learning the maps of tarkov and how to navigate them.

Map Theory

Spawns are usually dotted throughout the map in very spread out locations but there are sometimes cases where players can spawn right next to each other - always be wary that a player could be just across from you as you spawn.

  • Spawns

Loot can be found anywhere in the map but most will be found inside buildings and cases inside those buildings. To make a profit just take everything. If you find something better later you can always make space by dropping worse gear.

  • Loot

Extracts are usually on edges of the map. You can find them extremely easily by just sticking to the walls of maps then looking for anything that looks like it would be a means of getting out, holes in the walls, gates etc. Sometimes extracts can be inside basements in the form of what look like doors to the underground.

  • Extracts
  • Bosses

On most maps there will be a boss. These are dangerous scavs armed with high tier loot and usually have a couple guards. They have much higher health than PMC's or scavs so never expect a one shot headshot for them. Most of the time you want to avoid fighting them.

Scavs are AI with very low tier loot, they can sometimes have some good items on them but usually are not worth looting. They are extremely easy to kill but can still be a threat to you. Most of the time you can just ignore them and keep running. Sniper scavs are also present on any high up locations on the map but are usually very inaccurate.

  • Scavs

Navigation of maps when starting out can be extremely difficult. A way to solve this is to learn key landmarks of maps (for example in woods, sniper rock and sawmill and in customs, stronghold and big red). This can be done by going into offline raids on the map and looking out for key landmarks while trying to place yourself on an online map (mapgenie https://mapgenie.io/tarkov/maps )

Further Navigation

  • If you are struggling with navigation and identifying key landmarks a quick look at the tarkov wiki page for the map can identify the location easily.

Communication

Communication when playing tarkov in multiple levels of intensity.

aizveries

General Rules

  • The general rule of talking while playing tarkov is to shut up when someone wants you to unless you have important info to give them.
  • If you think you heard something quiet such as footsteps on a surface immediately say and shout out where you heard it and what it might of been for example: "I hear quiet steps on wood at the middle stairs"
  • Your team will then confirm if it is them or not, if unable to confirm then you can double check by hitting F1 twice to make your character speak, they can then confirm.

When fighting

  • As soon as you and/or members of your squad start fighting stop your conversation and start to listen for audio cues such as footsteps etc. Listen for callouts from squadmates and see if you can move to assist your teammates.
  • If you do not know callouts improvise and describe the place they are at with description of building e.g. "big concrete structure", precise location e.g. "on the close stairs", the sound of what they are running/walking on e.g. "they are on wood".
  • Will continue more in the fighting section...

Loot

Looting in tarkov.

Looting Buildings

  • Buildings are usually full of loose items and containers with items inside. You can spot where to look for loot quite easily as many items able to be looted usually gleam ever so slightly more than unlootable objects. Another thing is that a white dot appears on screen when you are close to them with your mouse.
  • Containers are pretty easy to spot as they look like, well, containers. They also have a huge fucking search prompt on them.
  • You can loot items quicker by ctrl + clicking to move them into inventory and also alt + clicking to equip them (helmets, guns etc)

Looting Bodies

  • AI and player bodies are looted best while lying down inside them as people can often not see you or mistake you for another body.
  • You should try and loot all bodies as quickly as possible, searching wherever area first depending on what you need. (pockets for grenades, vest for ammo and meds etc)
  • Sorting through items can be hard but one way to speed up the process is to just drop the items you do not need with a hotkey. You can find this at the bottom of the controls labeled "discard". I have mine set to "U" as it is easily reachable and no other controls use it.

Looting Bodies +

  • Fitting all the loot in can be hard sometimes but by utilising items such as vests and backpacks which have more container size than the slots they take up can help store items. For example if a player has Azimut on them place items in it then store it in your backpack - you have just gained an extra 8 slots.
  • You can also store guns more easily by taking off parts such as suppressors and large mags. You can also fold some guns with middle mouse button. If they dont fold then check if the stock has a buttpad you can take off (sometimes these stop folding)

Fighting

Fighting in raids.

Fighting in long range

  • Fighting in the long range can be difficult in tarkov, especially with the recoil of some guns. Your first thought process should be, "can I accurately hit this guy from this range?", "would it be worth starting a fight from here?".
  • If you are in immediate danger i.e they are looking straight at you, fire at them then report the person and their rough location to your squad, also specifying if they are scav or pmc.
  • If you aren't in danger then just report them in to your squad but do not act until you can accurately engage them.

Fighting in close range

  • If you hear footsteps report an estimational position of it, e.g. "I hear something on the middle stairs on metal"
  • First off, always state your position, for example, "i am in a room on shopside 3rd story", this clarifies to your teammates that they should hesistate to shoot if they hear and see a guy where you reported your location as. Because of this make sure your report is accurate.
  • If your teammates are in trouble push from a different angle and try to distract the enemy from their location if they are in peril. Make sure to tell them where you are coming from.
