Let's Talk Eggs!

Who Produces Eggs?

• Eggs are produced by laying hens (female chickens) on farms.
• Laying Hens begin laying eggs when they are 19 weeks old.
• A laying hen will produce 340 - 350 eggs a year, which is almost 1 egg per day!
• Eggs that are produced for eating will never develop into a baby chick because the eggs are not fertilized by a rooster and they are never incubated or kept warm.

Ontario has the largest concentration of egg farmers with over 500 egg farmers producing over 300 million dozen eggs.

• Les œufs sont produits par des poules pondeuses (femelles) dans des fermes.
• Les poules pondeuses commencent à pondre à l'âge de 19 semaines.
