About Canberra

  • The name Canberra is a derivation of an original term meaning "meeting place"
  • Canberra has a size in area nearly as big as Berlin

In 1913, there was a competition to design the new capital city of Australia and it was won by an architect called Walter Burley Griffin. He created a lake in the middle of the city and then called it after him : the Lake Burley-Griffin.
