Axe 1 Identities & Exchanges
I am a sneakerhead
How do sneakers define our identity?
I am a sneakerhead
Sneakerhead: a person who collects and trades sneakers as a hobby, and who typically is knowledgeable about the history of sneakers.
American Tennis champion Serena Williams attends the 2019 Met Gala Celebrating Camp
This document is a photograph of American tennis champion Serena Williams, who is standing on the red carpet OF a fashion show. Contrary to what is expected, she is not wearing a tennis outfit. Her pair of sneakers is the same colour as her dress. It seems to me that she is voluntarily showing her sneakers for marketing reasons. In my opinION, she IS paid by Nike to show her sneakers. I guess this is part of a contract she has signed with Nike.

1. A history of the Converse All Star
The article deals with the creation and history of an iconic American sneaker company called Converse, founded in 1908. First, Marquis Mills Converse founded the company at the beginning of the 20th century. Then, they produced the first athletic shoes with a rubber sole. Later, they asked Chuck Taylor, a semi-professional basketball player to work as a salesman for their company. He helped to develop its marketing and branding strategy thanks to its logo and his signature printed on the shoe. That was the first endorsement in sneaker history (1922). Famous rock stars have also been wearing them. These shoes have remained affordable since their creation. To conclude, we can say that these iconic sneakers have become a status symbol in America as well as in the rest of the world.
