Editor´s word

The first edition of "OUR ENGLISH MAG" comes to live after two months of intense work. A group of 18 journalists and reporters in year 5 at Emilia Pardo Bazán School have created an exclusive article each for this magazine. Therefore, you can find a wide variety of issues through your reading: food, animals, sports, books, superheroes, legends, pollution, amazing countries, weather, expeditions, cinema, videogames... The guidelines they had to follow were simple: - choose a topic you like - do some research about it - write a short article in English - add some photos And the results couldn´t be better!!! You have in your hands an incredible magazine written totally in English full of amazing articles. But, and here is the great novelty, you can read it and listen to it. Yes! Every article comes with an audio recorded by the author! You only have to click in the image of the loudspeaker that appears on every page to hear it. Isn´t it incredible? Very many thanks to all the collaborators who, voluntarily, have made this dream come true with their effort. This activity is part of the English classes, as a way to improve the learning of this language. THANK YOU!!! YOU ARE A GREAT TEAM!!!

Kenya is a country in the south of Africa. It´s a big country that has many different animals. The capital city is Nairobi, but there are other cities like Mombasa, Malindi, Samburu... There aren´t many historic buildings and there aren´t any zoos because they´ve got safaris.

ALL ABOUT KENYA

They speak a very strange language called Swahili. I think all of us have heard the phrase "hakuna matata"; well, that in Swahili means "no problem". Another interesting thing are the tribes, the most famous ones are the Masais and the Samburus.

I lived in a place called Diani Beach, which was a very beautiful place to live. It had monkeys, bushbabies, bats, snakes and monitor lizards. The type of snakes you could find there were the black mamba, the green mamba, common cobra, the real cobra... At the beach there was a very long coral reef with many beautiful fishes.

Every year the level of pollution of the sea grows and the number of people who clean the sea also. How can we stop the sea pollution? Today we are gonna talk about water pollution. There are many ways in which humans pollute the water, above all, the sea. For example, throwing garbage into the sea, with the ship´s accidents or throwing sewage water.

Today I am going to talk about Geronimo Stilton's books. Geronimo Stilton is a series of books for children up to 14 years old. They were originally published in Italy by Edizioni Piemme, in the year 2000. As indicated in the books, the protagonist's last name derives from Stilton cheese.

Minecraft, a videogame, has got 13,000,000 of copies, Cup-Head has got another 11.000.000 copies and Ark has got 16.000.000 copies too. These are the most popular videogames in the world.Videogames can help you improve your reflexes, space control, and in some cases your driving skills. However there are some cons to mention: they can become addictive, they can make you more violent and anxious, they can decrease your concentracion and you can mix reality and fantasy and make them dificult to distinguish. But, fortunately, this only happens if you spend many hours playing videogames.

Videogames are the most famous method of entertainment since the 80s to the present. In the year 1958 a physic called Willy Higinbotham invented the videogames. They were tris, Pac-Man, Super Mario... But this is the next.I'm sure that you play videogames. The videogames are harmful for your eyes, but it is not important if you do exercise.

Platypuses are small and fast animals native to Australia and Tasmania. Its body is a mix between duck, otter and beaver; in fact, the English colonists who arrived in Australia thought it was the mischief of a child who had sewn a duck's peak and a beaver's tail to an otter.

They are very cute animals, but they have a spur on their hind legs that contains poison; luckily it is not fatal (for humans), but it does cause severe pain. Besides they have the hind legs in the form of haunches to swim faster.

Rhythmic gymnastics involves risk, trust, companionship and sacrifice, among other things.

One of the best Spanish gymnasts is Almudena Cid.

Rhythmic gymnastics was created in 1962 by The Internacional Gymnastics Federation and is one of the best known sports in the world with football and swimming.

An international expedition found the remains of the Endurance.

The archaeologists and technicians located the wreck at the bottom of the Weddell Sea using undersea drones. Battling sea ice and freezing temperatures, the team had been searching for more then two weeks in a 150 a square-mile area around where the ship went down in 1915.With this discovering we need to remember the 69 expedition dogs, the really forgotten heroes.As Ernest Shakelton said “It’s the journey and not the destination that is important”.

THE endurance

The mythical ship of the explorer Ernest Shackleton was located by an international expedition at a depth of 3,000 metres in a very good state of preservation. The remains of the ship with which Ernest Shackleton tried to cross the Antarctic continent at the beginning of the 20th century, have been found in the Antarctic, 106 years after it was crushed in pack ice and sank during the expedition.

The team was called "HONEYBALL" and was presided by a woman named Lady Florence Dixie.

One of the best woman football player is Alexia Putellas.

Women's football was created in 1892 in Glasgow (Scotland). It was in 1894 when the first women's football team in the world was created. It was founded thanks to Nettie J.

Animals suffer when they are left, because they don’t understand why they are suddenly in a cage when the night before they were in their bed so happy.Much people should learn from them because they give us love and fidelity.

Dog shelters have lots of animals, because some people don’t want old and ill dogs. They stay there for the rest of their life until they die. These animals are called: invisible dogs. This happens because much people don’t sterilize their pets, appearing many puppies that are not wanted. Also, much people don’t treat their pets like family members. They see them like use and throw things. A new law considers pets as family members, and put several sanctions if someone tortures an animal.

About 280.000 dogs and cats are abandoned or lost in Spain every year. Hunters leave old dogs that can’t hunt. There are people that buys expensive dogs for their kids and relatives, and they leave them when the dogs aren’t funny, then they take it to the dog shelters.

INVISIBLE SOULS

The Maruxaina is a mermaid. She has got blond hair and is half fish half human. She lives in San Lanuxe's cave, in the rocks, among barnacles and mussels, where she spends her time spinning with linen fibers.

THE MARUXAINA

In stormy days, she climbs to the top of the gloom screaming and playing the horn. Some people say she does this to warn the sailors about some dangers of the sea; other people say she does this to lie them and lead them to shipwreck.

For the defenders of her goodness, this is a mermaid with an old face,smart like no other and always ready to save the sailors, and for others a blonde half fish that tricks them into getting its wreck.

The area of A Coruña has abundant rainfall. For this reason, there are so many forests and vegetation. In the forest we can see courses of water because of the copious precipitations. Moreover, we can also see a lot of vegetation.

The city of A Coruña has an oceanic climate, because it’s near the Atlantic Ocean. It has many ports and beautiful beaches. It has a very long promenade. IT HAS AN OCEANIC CLIMATE.

There is a great deterioration of the climate around the world. The greenhouse effect contributes to global warming.

The cinema is a fantastic place where you can teleport to new worlds. I'm going to talk about new superhero movies.

Senegal is a country in West Africa. The weather is warm and dry. It has a population of 17 million people. There are 2 religions: musslims and catholics. The capital city is Dakar and the flag is green, red and yellow. My father, Ousmane, is from a village called Gellguay. I was there 5 years ago. I liked the horses, the sand on the floor and the ice-creams. Yummy!!! ,

Cartoon Cat is a cat-like creature that looks like an old cartoon character like Mickey mouse or Felix the cat. It can stretch its body. It likes to be around abandoned or haunted houses. Cartoon Cat is always blood-thirsty.

The Smile Room, also known as “The Teeth”, is a door that leads to a human-like mouth that has sharp, crooked teeth. It is around 2 m wide and 7 m tall. The Smile Room once infected a human, and later used him as a host. The first Smile Room encounter was at a Neb’s Fun World in Ontario, Canada. Three teenagers encountered this place and two of them broke in; the third one waited outside. He waited for them for hours, with no signs of them coming back, until he decided to enter and find them. The teenager was able to search in all the sections, but with no sucsess. He did find one of his friend’s cellphones and, while looking through it, he was in shock when he saw a photo of a monstrous anomaly witch manifested itself in the back rooms of that Neb’s Fun World. It was a gigantic human-looking vertical mouth with crooked teeth that manifested in an open doorway, with the words “The Smile Room” written above the door.

Hello everyone! I am here to talk about Trevor Henderson. Trevor is a horror artist that has a lot of creepy and scary creatures which are loved everywhere (or may not, you may have a love-hate relationship with him). Now, I am going to tell you some of the most popular ones.

A little about Trevor

Siren Head is a human-like creature with a fleshy siren as a head. To catch their pray, they use one of your family member’s voices to lure you where he is. After he has you where he wants you to, he makes a very high-pitched screech like this: EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEH! And it will make your ears bleed and probably faint. Its unknown what Siren Head does to these people after they faint.

Three months after defeating Dr. Robonik and sending him to the land of mushrooms, the Dr. returns to Earth with a new partner, Knuckles, and they want to search for an emerald. This emerald can destroy civilizations. Sonic and his new friend, Tails, have to travel around the world to find the emerald before Dr. Robonik does. I want to see it at the cinema. I think it will be a very funny movie.

On Friday, 1st April 2022, the new Sonic movie is released: SONIC THE HEDGEHOG 2. It is an action movie and with many adventures. It is also very funny and we can watch it with our family. Sonic is a blue hedgehog with special powers. He can run at supersonic speed. He is more intelligent than Dr. Robonik. He can win him.

Books are a good tool for not to get bored. When you open a book, it’s like if you go to a world of adventures, romanticism or mystery. Sometimes, people prefer to stay with friends, and that’s completely fine! But if you are alone, the books will ever be with you! So if you have a book, you will have a friend!

Books

My favorite book is called “Terror on the Titanic”. It’s about the famous transatlantic that sank in the Atlantic Ocean, near the coast of Terranova. In this book you can choose what happens: if you just escape, if you finish in the sea like in the film or you just can drown.

It’s a very interesting book, I strongly recommend it to you. In my house I’ve got many books, so it’s just like living in a library!

A team can qualify for the UEFA Champions League in several ways. Via national competition, which depends on the country, they qualify directly or through previous rounds. There are some countries, it depends on how many Champions have teams from that country, a certain number are classified. You can also qualify via national competitions, since the winner of the UEFA Europe League (second division of European clubs) and the winner of the Champions League qualify directly for this tournament. The top scorer in the Champions League is Cristiano Ronaldo, with 140 goals celebrated with the kits of Juventus, Manchester United and Real Madrid.

Well, we've already talked about foods that don't seem like it and about the richest foods in the world, so now it's time to talk about the most disgusting ones. For example: Rotten salmon heads, Mud pies, fried tarantulas, or casu marzu - cheese with maggots.

We come to the last part, where we are going to talk about the strangest and most exciting food in the world. You may have already seen some of the most disgusting food in the world, like for example fried tarantulas, the weirdest food in the world; number 2 is sheep's eye juice; number 3 is seahorse, starfish and scorpion skewers; number 4 is dried lizards; and number 5 is a drink , mouse wine.

Strange food

Normally, the food we eat does not surprise us, but not all food is like that: there are some amazing foods created by expert chefs or pastry chefs that you could never imagine. For example, have you ever imagined that earrings look like candy, or that what looks like a lemon is actually a cake?

Real food?

As I said in the previous section, not all food is the same. There are foods that are wonders for almost everyone. The number 1 and the most popular is the hamburger, the 2 is the pizza, the 3, the sushi, the 4, the paella, the 5, the fondue, the 6, the burritos, the 7, the chop suey, the 8 , the paisa tray, the 9, the ratatouille and the 10, the ceviche.
