Action verbs

An action verb explains what the subject of the sentence does, is doing, or has done. They will attract more attention to your sentences, and this is why we prefer them when writing.

Linking verbs connects the subject to the rest of the sentence.

Powerful Verbs

What is the big deal?

Strong verbs show actions that your reader can easily imagine. This is why we will always prefer to use strong action verbs when writing.

The Verb "To Be"

"To be" verbs (am, is, are, was, were, etc) are weak verbs because they do not show action.

Verb + adverb

Sometimes we use adverbs to describe our verbs and liven up our sentences. However, try using a stronger verb instead:

Use nouns to describe actions.

Use a thesaurus and look up synonyms.
