The 1st special education school of ilion
was founded at the beginning of 1974 and run by the name 11th Special Education School of Athens. It was one of the first Special Education Schools of Attica.

The initial number of students was close to 30 with only 2 appointed teachers. Gradually, school's teaching positions were increased to 6 and at the same time the school unit was renamed to 1st Special Education School of Ilion.

In 2022 the 1st Special Primary School of Ilion has enrolled 65 students. It numbers 14 special education teachers, 2 occupational therapists, 2 speech therapists, 2 school nurses, 2 physical education teachers, a music teacher, a teacher of arts and a teacher of drama.

The inauguration of the school
The school consists of:

- a ground floor
- a first floor
- and a second floor

There is an underground parking at the school. Students arrive at school by school bus or rented taxi.

On the ground floor of the school there are situated the offices of the principal and the deputy principal, the teachers' office, the dining room and the school's canteen.

Two elevators and two main stairs lead to the upper floors where the classrooms and therapy rooms are located.

This room is used when a student exhibits intense aggressive behavior towards himself and people around. The walls and the floor are covered by mattresses so that the student is protected from injuring.
Dinning room
The dining room is used for students to have lunch. There is also a fully equipped kitchen so that the students can practice cooking.

Little house
The "Little house" is a landscaped room where students can learn and practice important daily living skills. In this room they learn to make their bed, to use the washing machine, to hang their clothes, to iron, to do the table etc.
