Some research that I decided not to include within the essay were based on topics that would not be covered such as euthansia within neonatal departments.
Research
into euthanasia
I used the research to support arguments within the essay and to show different perspectives on the debate of whether or not to legalise euthanasia in the Uk.
To begin with, I conducted general research into the topic of euthanasia. Then over time, as I refined my question I also refined the research.
Deciding on the topic and question
- Made a mind map of any topics and questions of interest.
- Refined the question to euthanasia within the Uk.
Should euthanasia be legalised in the uk?
Aims
Another aim of this essay was to explore both sides of the debate and reach a conclusion.
One aim was to develop my academic writing skills.
To produce a 5,000 word essay.
Research II
However, many anti-euthanasia activist would present the argument of the slippery slope.
When condiucting research into arguments for the legalisation of euthanasia, one key point was, by doing so, it alows laws and regulations to put into place.
Conclusion
The deabte of whether euthanasia should be legalised in the UK is discussed at all levels of society as death is something that we all experience. Therefore, it will continue to be prevalent debate.
The future of this debate is largley unknown. However, over the recent years there has been an evident shift in societies' attitudes towards death and therefore many pro-euthanasia actavists are optamistic that the law will fall in their favour.
The idea that without having first-hand experience, we may never truly understnd the significance of the deabte.
Review
Deciding to change topic/question
Overcomming this problem
After conducting researching into the topic of sleep, I soon discoverd that there was not much academic literature on sleep and I found there was a lack of a debate within this topic.
To overcome this challenge, I decided to change the topic of my essay to a subject with a larger range of academic reading.
Review ii
What I learnt
What I learnt
Whilst writing this essay, I learnt the significance of referencing during the writing process as it saves time overall. In terms of euthanasia itself, I learnt lots about the laws, not only in the UK but in other counties and differnt sides for arguments for and against the legalisation.
While writing this essay, I learnt the importnace of documenting for instance, making several plans. This was important because, when I began to write the essay it made it much easier, as I had a starting point and it was well structured.
Review III
If I were to do this again
Reference as I go
Better time managment
Make better use of the research time
Realise sooner that sleep was not the right topic for me
By doining this it would save lots of time.
Utalise my action plan more and start writing the essay sooner.
If I were to do this agin, I would like to be more efficient in the first weeks' lessons.
Spend less time researching a topic which in the end is not relevant to my final question.
THANK you
