ABOUT Eleanor of Aquitaine

Children

Eleanor was born in 1122 and she died on 31 March 1204. She was the daughter of William. He was the Duke of Aquitaine. Eleanor became the Duchess of Aquitaine. Her father and brother died in 1137.

  • Richard the Lionheart

Richard was Eleanor's son. He joined the Third Crusade; he was taken prisoner in Germany. Richard died in 1199.

She married Louis at just 15-years-old. Eleanor accompanied her husband on the second Crusade in Constantinople and Jerusalem. Eleanor and Louis divorced.Eleanor married Henry of Anjou in 1152. Henry became king of England. Henry was emprisoned. He died in 1189.

Richard I ( 1157-1199) was Duke of Maine, Anjou, Lord of Cyprus, Normandy, Aquitaine, Gascony, Count of Poitiers and Nantes.His mother was Eleanor of Aquitaine and his father was Henry II. He was born on 8 September 1157 in Oxford. Richard was crowned is Westminster in the 13th century.

  • Richard was the British chief of the third Crusade leading to Saladin's capture.
  • Richard is depicted in many films.

ABOUT Edward III

Edward was King of England and France. His mother was Isabella. Edward III was Lord of Ireland and Aquitaine. Edward died on 21 June 1377, leaving his young grandson Richard as king.

Edward renouned his claim to the French crown in return for the whole of Aquitaine.

Philipa was his wife. Philipa and Edward had 13 chlildren, among whom, the Black Prince. Alice was Edward’s mistress. Philipa surprised Edward in 1369.

  • Edward was a military hero and an important character.
  • He showed a military brilliance at an early age, playing a key role in the defeat of the French at the battle of Crecy when he was only 16.
  • In 1335 he took the king prisoner.
  • In 1367, Edward led an expedition to Spain, restored the deposed King Pedro of Castile and proved himself again with victory at the the battle of Najera in northern Castile.
  • In 1370, Edward besieged Limoges, 3,000 of its inhabitants were killed.
  • A year after, Edward came back to England.

Edward was born on 15 June 1330. He was Edward III's son. He never became king even if he was the king's son. He became the Prince of Wales in 1343.

ABOUT Richard II of Bordeaux

  • Richard became the Duke of Aquitaine at the age of 10 before the country was largely ruled by his uncle, John of Gaunt.
  • Richard had his own coins because he was the Duke of Aquitaine.
  • The first crisis of Richard's reign was the Peasants' revolt in 1381.
  • Richard abdicated in September 1399 and Bolingbroke acsended the throne as Henry IV.
  • In October, he was emprisoned in the Ponterfract Castle and he died four months later.

Today we are going to talk about Richard II of Bordeaux.He was born on 6th January 1367 in Bordeaux in Aquitaine and he died in 1400 in Ponterfract Castle.He was part of the Plantagenet dynasty. His Father was Edward III, he died in 1376. His mother was Joan of Kent.

  • He was an English soldier and a popular hero, Henry IV made him a marshall of France.
  • in June 1429 he was captured, held hostage by the French then released in 1433.
  • He was a great person beacause he fought at the battle of Castillon in 1453 and his story is very interesting.
  • There are many texts about him and his life.

John Talbot was born in 1384 and he died in the year 1458. He was the son of Richard Talbot and Ankaret.
