Action verbs are words that describe the action that is taking place in a sentence.

SIMPLE PRESENT TENSE

The simple present tense in English is used to describe an action that is regular, true or normal. Also, they are used to show what is happening in a sentence and to make the sentence more interesting and dynamic.

GRAMMAR STRUCTURE AFFIRMATIVE Subject+action verb+complement. I study in the library every afternoon. She watches TV on her smartphone. NEGATIVE Subject+doesn't/don't+action verb+complement. We don't work most weekends. She doesn't listen to music with her MP3 player.

SIMPLE PRESENT TENSE

YES/NO QUESTIONS QUESTIONS Do/Does+subject+action verb+complement? Do you study in the library? Does she watch Tv on her smartphone? ANSWERS Yes/No+subject+auxiliary (do/does). Yes, I do. No, she doesn´t.

EXAMPLE - Does he write a poem? Yes, he does. No, he doesn´t.

- Do we exercise in the morning? Yes, we do. No, we don´t.

RULES - VERBS

* When the verb ends in -ch, -ss, -sh, -x or -zz, we add -es. Example watch - watches miss - misses wash - washes mix - mixes

* When the verb ends in a consonant + -y we change y to i and add -es. Example hurry - hurries study - studies reply - replies

RULES - VERBS

* But when the verb ends in a vowel + -y we just add -s. Example pay - pays enjoy - enjoys

* Have, go, do and be are irregular. Example have - has go - goes do - does be - is
