What is Phoresis?

Definitions

Interactions between Phoresis and its sub-modules

01

What is Phoresis?

and how does it work?

Phoresis is the answer to 3 major needs

  • To manage a SEBIA instrument
  • To visualize the results (with curves and worklists)
  • To forward the results and informations of the patients (into data bases)

To manage a SEBIA instrument :

To visualize the results :

Phoresis is a tool for interpretation

Phoresis allows :

  • The electrophoretic pattern display
  • The results validation and printing
  • The quality control management
  • Do the acquisition, elaboration and conversion of pictures from the GELSCAN

To store the results and informations of the patients :

Phoresis can stock patients informations and communication through hospital network

Phoresis and PostgreSQL working along allows to :

  • Transfer the data (such as analysis results, patients informations...) through PostgreSQL
  • The database backup (possible without the use of Phoresis)
  • Analysis transmission to L.I.S. (Laboratory Information Systems)
→ Note that Phoresis actually transfers the data to PostgreSQL → Results are stored into PostgreSQL (outside of Phoresis)

Question 1/2

Which of these instruments is not compatible with Phoresis?

CAPILLARYS 3 TERA

MINICAP Flex Piercing

HYDRASYS 2 SCAN

MINICAP TERA

Right!

The appellation 'TERA' stands for the12 capillaries that the CAPILLARYS 3 can havewhereas the MINICAP features only 2 capillaries

Next

Question 2/2

What is something you can NOT do with Phoresis?

Display the electrophoretic pattern

Look up for a Capillarys 3 user manual

Store analysis results about a patient in the data base (à remplacer)

The quality control management

RIGHT!

All user manuals can be found in the Sebia extranet website or in the Sebia Knowledge Base

Definitions

around the Phoresis environment

Phoresis is only the software that manage a Sebia instrument

It doesn't process and store by itself all the data generated

That's why Phoresis uses some sub-modules

Next >

PostgreSQL

Open-source object database systemIt's the structure (the format) of the database. PostgreSQL is managing the database : save the records, update the Phoresis worklist, make the automatic backup of the records for multiple instruments

HOST module

Software module implemented into Phoresisin communication with a LIS / middleware

  • Import the demographic data of the patients :
-> Read into the LIS / Middleware -> write into the Phoresis worklist
  • Export the results :
-> read into the PostgreSQL database -> write the data for the LIS / Middleware

PgAdminIII

Hydraplus download

Software module implemented into Phoresis,in communication with SEBIA dispenser - reading the barcode data (tubes ID) of the automated dilution instrument - writing the ID into the Phoresis worklist

Interface admistration tool of the PostgreSQL database -> maintenance, backup, restore

Interactions between Phoresis and its sub-modules

3 possible PC configurations

L.I.S / MIDDLEWARE

L.I.S / MIDDLEWARE

SINGLE PC

SERVER PC

CLIENT PC

only one PC. Phoresis and PostgreSQL are installed. PC connected to an instrument and same PC managing also the PostgreSQL database. PC connected to the L.I.S (if LIS is used).

PostgreSQL is installed. Server PC is connected to the other(s) Client_PC(s) through a network (speed : at least 1 Gbits/sec). Server PC is connected to the L.I.S or middleware (if used). Server PC is not connected to an instrument but Phoresis is installed to visualize all the results.

only Phoresis is installed. Client PC is managing an instrument... or it’s running Phoresis offline for results validation. Client PC is connected to the Server_PC through a network (speed : at least 1 Gbits/sec). Client PC does not manage the PostgreSQL database. Client PC is not connected to the L.I.S (or middleware).

CLIENT PC CONFIGURATION

→ Only Phoresis is installed in this configuration

  • PC connected to an instrument
  • No data base located in the PC (no PostgreSQL program installed)
  • Receives the result from the instrument and forwards the results to the server PC

L.I.S / MIDDLEWARE

SERVER PC CONFIGURATION

→ Collects all results from the other PCs in order to have a shared database

  • PostgreSQL and Phoresis installed in the same PC
  • PC is NOT connected to an instrument
  • Host module is used to communicate with the L.I.S or middleware

L.I.S / MIDDLEWARE

SINGLE PC CONFIGURATION
INSTRUMENT
  • PostgreSQL and Phoresis installed on the same PC
  • PC is connected to an instrument
  • Host module is used to communicate with the L.I.S or middleware

CLIENT PC

  • Both PC communicate with each other through the network (using network switch)
  • Server PC managing the data base

SERVER PC

MULTI-CLIENT CONFIGURATION : 2 PC (or more) are managing 2 instruments (or more).

CLIENT PC

CLIENT PC

CLIENT PC

CLIENT PC

(only one network PC board is registered in the local domain)

Quiz Test

question 1

What sub-module manages the database? (save records, update the Phoresis worklist, make automatic backups)

HOST

PostgreSQL

PgAdminIII

Hydraplus

Correct!

PostgreSQL is managing the database : - Save the records - Update the Phoresis worklist - Make the automatic backup of the records for multiple instruments

question 2

Which PC configuration is not connected to the L.I.S / Middleware ?

Server PC

Client PC

Single PC

None of the above

Correct!

On a Client PC, only Phoresis is installed for results validation. It does not manage the PostgreSQL database and is not connected to the L.I.S (or middleware).
