Explain: What is Resolution?

  • The resolution is the conclusion of the story’s plot. It’s where any unanswered questions are answered, or “loose ends are tied.”
Why is it important?
  • If a story ends inappropriately, the reader is left feeling discontent, & confused, so the story has to come to a proper conclusion.

Happy/ Surprise ending

Moral ending

Sad/Emotinal ending

He hugged his lifeless, puppy; it had fallen into a pit. He covered the body with his shirt and sobbed quietly.

The lion realised that a small act of kindness can go a long way like how it did now in saving his life!

  • I hugged my puppy after a long search. It wagged its tail and licked all over my face. Finally I yelled,"Yey....""
  • I couldn't believe it! A new puppy in my dad's arms. All mine!

Explain

What kinds of feelings / characterisation can we infer from the above examples?

Explain: Video clip

Avoid Cliche' Endings: Very common; no longer interesing.

  • He woke up; it was all a dream.
  • They lived happily ever after.

Explore: Practice: Change the resolutionMan from the South

Different Resolution: Example: "Five!" "Six!" "Seven!" The fling gave a big spark; I watched the thumb snapping the top-down - pause. Then the thumb raised the top once more. I could hear my heartbeat thudding faster inside my chest. The next moment, I heard heavy steps near the door! "Freeze,'" police stormed inside holding a gun, pointing at Carlos. I saw a lady entering behind them! "I'm his wife. I saw him enter the room with you guys; I know what crazy things he could do, he has chopped 45 fingers so far, it's time to put an end to his crazy addiction, so I called the police," she said. A sign of relief passed over me, and I smiled at the boy who had escaped from this ridiculous bet - chopping the little finger!
