INTRODUCTION TO CAS

WHAT IS CAS???

A core part of the IB DP which aims to counterbalance academic rigour through co-carricular activities

cas stands for

CREATIVITY

SERVICE

ACTIVITY

CREATIVITY

Anything where you get creative – be that in the traditional sense with art, music and theatre or in less popular ways such as design.

ACTIVITY

Activity is where you put in physical effort that leads to a healthier lifestyle. This can include everything from jogging to ice hockey to cross country.

SERVICE

Service is any unpaid task that responds to a genuine problem in the world. That said, it can be anything as small as helping your elderly neighbours from time to time to anything as big as volunteering at a charity

WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS FOR CAS?

CAS EXPERIENCES

CAS INTERVIEWS

CAS PROJECT

CCAS REFLECTIONS

Any time you engage in Creativity, Activity or Service. You need atleast 3 experiences for each strand and must address all 7 learning outcomes.

A process of documenting your CAS experiences and CAS project on a web platform called Managebac. These are done for each CAS experience and CAS project.

A long CAS experience that you and at least 2 other group members initiate, plan and enact by yourselves over a month. You only need to do this once.

Interviews with your INSTEP mentor and House Dean throughout the 2 years to track CAS progress.

WHERE CAN I TRACK CAS?

You will record all your experiences and reflections over the 2 year period in MANAGEBAC.

WHAT ARE THE 7 LEARNING OUTCOMES

OUTCOMES YOU MUST ADDRESS ATLEAST ONCE THROUGHOUT YOUR CAS JOURNEY

  • Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences
  • Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
  • Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance
  • Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions
  • Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
  • Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process
  • Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience

WHY SHOULD I CARE ABOUT CAS?

  • It helps you remain balanced, giving you something nice to do between studying in years 11 and 12.
  • It can help you find interests in your life that you might have otherwise not experienced.
  • It can develop you as a more well-rounded person.

NO CAS = NO DIPLOMA

Thanks for your attention!
