The vowels
a: like the a in father e: like the e in her i and y: like the ee in teeth o: like the o in not u: doesn't exist in English. like a ee, but with rounded lips. ex: salut, ami, retard, portable
Several vowels combined
oi: like wah ou: like the oo in tooth ai, ei: like the e in let au, eau: like the o in not eu, oeu: like the e in her ex: revoir, jour, treize, beau, coeur
The nasal sounds
None of these sounds exist in English. To recognize them, they always end in n or m.
[ɑ̃]: an/am, en/em [ɛ̃]: in/im, un/um, ain/aim, ein/eim [ɔ̃]: on/om ex: janvier, demain, bonjour
