The Black Death

The Black Death was a devastating pandemic of bubonic plague that arrived in Europe in October 1347 and killed millions of people.

Being one of the busiest trading nations, the epidemic from China arrived in Europe in 1347, in Messina, Sicily.

An Italian tradesman has arrived in your town and has fallen ill. You, as a doctor, realise with horror that he has brought the Black Death into your town!

You are a very wise man and you know that it is a deadly disease. The poor sufferer has little chance to survive but you try to do the best. What would you do?

Give the patient a small quantity of crushed emeralds with water.

Give the patient a large amount of mercury.

Unfortunately, it didn' work. Your patient's condition is getting worse. He has high fever now and chills... You are going to try out a traditional method: BLOODLETTING.

Congratulations! Your patient no longer suffers from plague... Mercury killed him faster than plague.

TRY AGAIN!

Your patient feels himself extremely tired and weak after bloodletting. You should do something useful very quickly or he is going to die soon. What would you do?

Since it was believed that clean urine had medicinal properties, you bathe him in it and ask him to drink it.

Try lancing the buboes.

Congratulations! Your patient no longer suffers from plague... Lancing buboes killed him faster than plague.

TRY AGAIN!

Nothing happened... except that your patient feels himself very bad. He started to vomit and he has diaorrhea now. You know that he has maximum five days left and if you don't do anything useful, he is going to be dead soon...

Suddenly you remember something...Your great-grandfather was also a physician. He had a secret recipe, which might be helpful to cure the disease. 'Where can it be? I have to find it very quickly!
