introduction

What is instructional design? In short, instructional design is the process by which learning products and experiences are designed, developed, and delivered. These learning products include online courses, instructional manuals, video tutorials, learning simulations, etc

Sara McNeil defines the Instructional design as a:

PROCESS

  • Instructional Design is the systematic development of instructional specifications using learning and instructional theory to ensure the quality of instruction. It is the entire process of analysis of learning needs and goals and the development of a delivery system to meet those needs. It includes development of instructional materials and activities; and tryout and evaluation of all instruction and learner activities.

Discipline: Instructional Design is that branch of knowledge concerned with research and theory about instructional strategies and the process for developing and implementing those strategies.

" science: Instructional Design is the science of creating detailed specifications for the development, implementation, evaluation, and maintenance of situations that facilitate the learning of both large and small units of subject matter at all levels of complexity.

Instructional design is a complex process that is creative, active and iterative

  • the systematic and reflective process of translating the principles of learning and instruction into plans for instructional materials, activities, information resources, and evaluation.
  • The instructional design process incorporates the theoretical considerations presented above into a practice-based framework that bridges the gaps between learner needs, learning objectives, delivery of instruction, and evaluation.
  • (A) systematic process, based on educational theories, on the development of instructional strategies, and specifications to promote quality learning experience.
  • What is instructional design? In short, instructional design is the process by which learning products and experiences are designed, developed, and delivered. These learning products include online courses, instructional manuals, video tutorials, learning simulations, etc

The implications for the design of learning environments are obvious: First ofall, learning environments have to provide an appropriate context or organizing issue using by the teacher for learning activities; then they have to provide assistance and scaffolds as well as other resources among which the learner can choose the very best for more thorough comprehension.

Learning Environments

instru ctional/learning design as a tool for the development of learning environments.

  1. environmental analysis and student learning needs,
  2. designing effective and efficient learning process specifications and in accordance with the environment and learning needs of students,
  3. developing materials for use in learning activities,
  4. implementation of learning system design,
  5. implementation of formative and summative evaluation of learning programs

Learning design

Learning system design contains five important steps, namely;

Traditional Resources

Any textbooks and workbooks used in the classroom. For example, language arts classrooms almost always have literature textbooks, writing textbooks, and even vocabulary and spelling workbooks. In addition to these, traditional resources also include any supplemental reading material, like novels or poems outside of the textbook.

Instructional materials?

Graphic Organizers

Any type of visual representation of information; Diagrams, charts, tables, flow charts, and graphs

Instructional materials are the tools used in educational lessons, which includes active learning and assessment. Basically, any resource a teacher uses to help him/her teach his students is an instructional material.

Teacher-Made Resources

Anything the teacher creates, like handouts, worksheets, tests, quizzes, and projects. Many of these are used for assessment in the classroom, which is determining the level of learning on any given topic.

Evaluating these materials is very important. Everything a teacher creates must be a true assessment of the learning objectives. For instance, a test on a more advanced novel needs to show how a student can apply the concepts of theme, character development, conflict, and other literary ideas covered in that unit.
