Remind the client that she/he is in control of the process by explicitly and frequently asking for permission to coach.
Your "why" is of more insterest to the client than who or what you do.
Exercise deep listening to truly perceive and understand where the client is coming from and his/her deepest desires and fears.
Focus on information that may be instructive on how to gain a client's trust, like knowing client's strength.
Accept tasks along the margin of a coach's role , write formal agreements and meet your commitments.
Be true to your word; do not violate the confidentiality agreement.
Clarifying questions can help the client experience an invitation to go deeper in their thinking.
Uncover personal connections.
Uncover client's assets. Make the person's strengths surface.
Carefully plan the first meeting. The client will be looking for indicators of competence, credibility, integrity and character.
