We use COMPARATIVE ADJECTIVES to compare 2 items.

The green pencil is longer than the red pencil.

We normally add: adjective+ER THAN...

fast fastER

The car is fastER THAN the bike.

but there are some exceptions:

1. Verbs ending in -e : safer than... 2. Verbs ending in -cvc: hotter than... 3. Verbs ending in -y: happyier than... 4. Long adjectives: more intelligent than... 5. Irregular adjectives: (good) better than...
