energy
energy is transferred between energy stores
- energy is stored in the different energy stores of an object
- KINETIC- anything moving has energy in its kinetic energy store.
- THERMAL- all objects have energy in this store. The hotter the object, the more energy in the store.
- CHEMICAL- anything that can release energy by a chemical reaction has energy in this store, eg food.
- GRAVITATIONAL POTENTIAL- any object raised above ground level has energy in this store.
- ELASTIC POTENTIAL- anything stretched has energy in this store, like springs and rubber bands.
- ELECTROSTATIC- eg. two charges that attract or repel each other have energy in this store.
- MAGNETIC- eg. two magnets that attract or repel each other have energy in this store.
- NUCLEAR- the nucleus of an atom releases energy from this store in nuclear reactions.
