The Internet is a network of thousands of computers and devices around the world connected by copper wires, fibre optics, wireless connections and other methods. The Internet of Things is a revolutionary concept that describes the connection of everyday objects to the Internet so that we can interact with them.

How does the Internet work?

We give the router the address (URL) by typing in on the browser. Information starts to travel in the form of packets.

Each webpage is also assigned an IP address, to which the (DNS) server assigns a name (like google.com) .

The DNS server sends the request to the server that host the webpage, which sends back the information in packets.

The ISP assigns an address to our computer or mobile phone, called IP address.

Do you know what is a web page?

A website is a series of linked web pages that can be accesed from a common address. The documents that form a website are files and folders that contain images, text, icons, multimedia, hyperlinks, etc. To access a webpage we use a browser (Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, etc.) that is in charge pf communicating our computer with the server where the page is hosted.

How does a web page work?

Website are created by developers and designers. However, the people responsible for their maintenance are the webmasters. S/he creates the web on their computer (local site) and a copy accesible to everyone (remote site) in a special computer called a server. Therefore, servers are computers that host webpages and make them available to the whole network.

How do we access a web page?

HTTP (HyperText Transfer Protocol) is the set of rules that must be followed to publish a webpage. The complete address of a site is form http + URL. The URL normally starts with 'www' which means World Wide Web. A domain is the name of a Web site (what comes after the 'www' in a web address or '@' in an email address). Domains must be bought and pay an annual fee for them.

How does a web page look?

The have two parts:

• The content, which is the text that will be shown on the screen.
• The labels and attributes that structure the web page into headings, paragrpahs, lists, links, etc. and they are not shown on screen.

HTML is the language used to build web pages. The browser interprets the code and transforms it into the web page displayed on our screen. HTML files have the extension .html or .htm.

Go to any website, do right click anywhere and select "Ver código fuente". What are you seeing?
