How I came to deciding my topic.

I had many thoughts on what my HPQ topic would be. My original thoughts were on doing something related to:

• Medicine
• Physics
• Law
• Psychology
• Economics
• Sport - In specific, Cricket
• Space & Beyond

How I chose my title

• How has Cricket influenced the different communities?

There were many reasons why I avoided these titles. My final title is: How can Humans travel, to expand civilization, past the limits of the solar system?

I had many different titles based on every subject I wanted to do. Examples of these titles include:

• The ethical issues surrounding stem cell research
• When does genetic engineering become unethical
• How can humans use black holes?
• Should euthanasia be legalized?
• How does someone’s brain change when they are in love?
• Should there be a minimum wage?

Why I chose my title and what modifications did I make?

I chose my title based on the topic I wanted to choose: Space & Beyond. As mentioned earlier, my title based on this topic is : How can Humans travel, to expand civilization, past the limits of the solar system? And this topic does not directly tie in with any of my other GCSE subjects. As seen before, I had many titles before I changed to this one. This was mainly because it tied in with the topics in my GCSE subjects which is not allowed as we are already going to learn it.

What were my initial ideas for my project?

I already knew I would be doing a topic that I liked. Since there were so many, I had discussed with my supervisor and he had suggested I go with the title: How can Humans use black holes. Based on this, I started making plans for my project. After attending a few HPQ taught skills programs, I had thought of utilising one of the time management and planning techniques. So I researched time management techniques and planning and thought of using the Eisenhower matrix technique to identify what was needed and what isn't.

Finish my "Record of initial ideas" and "Part A candidate proposal" by at least October 2021

Finish researching and compiling sources by October 2021

Make a start on the presentation

Start on a first draft and maybe start on the final piece.

What sources did I use and how did I find them?

First of all, I looked up "Space research" on google and compiled the websites that I found useful.Then I looked up on Wikipedia "intergalactic and interstellar travel" and looked at their references. In the process, I had also found a Youtube Channel called Kurzgesagt.

These were the 2 of the most prominent resources I had used in my Essay. NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration - is a U.S. government agency that is responsible for science and technology related to air and space. SPACE.com - A news website that gives the latest news regarding space.

• I had watched many videos as well: Notably from kurzgesagt, but also others.
• I had also enquired some of my teachers to reaffirm some of my research.
