SCHOOL CONTEXT

OUR HIGH SCHOOL

INS Alba del Vallès is the center of reference for Sant Fost de Campsentelles, Martorelles and Santa Maria de Martorelles, three towns at about 15km from Barcelona. Our name, very poetic, comes from the fact that Sant Fost de Campsentelles is the first town in Vallès Oriental where the sun rises.

We have developed our activities since the 1995-96. In our facilities, more than 700 students and more than 70 professionals live together daily.

We teach secondary education and A-levels, both scientific and humanistic. We:

  • work strategically
  • have a plan for attention to diversity
  • have our own teaching projects (like STEM)
  • have an improving plan for reading
  • personalized tutorial attention
  • have quality and excellence plans
  • take part into an Erasmus + program, eTwinnings…

We have very good coexistence because of the importance given to social cohesion. For this reason, we promote cultural and recreational celebrations such as Halloween, Carnival, Christmas, Saint Patrick's Day, Saint George's Day...

LINGUISTIC ACTIVITIES

ERASMUS+

From 2018, our high school has been taking part in different Erasmus+ projects, which involved teachers and students. We have nowadays the Erasmus+ Accreditation.The Erasmus+ experience is a great opportunity for all the members involved in the project: students, teachers and families.

Erasmus+ KA2(2018 - 2020)

OUTDOOR EDUCATION

It consisted in an investigation on how to improve student learning through outdoor activities. This project was carried out by five different schools from different parts of Europe and each school developed a subject: Turkey (History), Portugal (Biology), Romania (Literature), Italy (Maths) and Spain (Arts).

A project about autism which consists in training courses and job shadowings in schools from different points of Europe.

We continue researching sustainable cities and remain actively engaged in various initiatives aimed at building an environmentally conscious society.

eTWINNING

eTwinning helps our students to explore the world together, providing resources and learning opportunities. It increases students' motivation and fosters collaborative work among students. We have been involved in 2 eTwinning projects, one in first of CSE called Growing together: educating teenagers about autism and diversity in an inclusive classroom and one in second of CSE called Read me a book.

ENGLISH FESTIVAL

Once a year, our first of CSE students take part in the English Festival. It’s a festival in which students from 6th grade of primary and 1st of CSE prepare a musical performance in English. We have developed it into a project and we also prepare a special performance for parents. Physical education, English and art are only some of the subjects involved in this project.

OTHER LINGUISTIC ACTIVITIES

TRIP TO IRELAND OR THE UK: During the second term, our students from second A-levels have the chance to take part into a one week cultural trip to Ireland or the UK. TRIP TO FRANCE: Our "Niveau Intermédiaire" students have the opportunity to participate in a three-day cultural trip to France during the third term. WORKSHOPS IN ENGLISH: Throughout the school year, our students participate in a variety of workshops, such as an English rap workshop that connects music with learning FESTIVITIES: Special days such as Halloween, Christmas or St.Patrick's Day which are celebrated with all the students from the different levels of the school.

STEM

Our students from 1st, 2nd and 3rd CSE work in Science, Technology and Maths through STEM Projects. Through this methodology, students learn competencies to solve problems and analyzing abilities at the same time that they develop cooperation and collaboration skills.

MISTI GTL: global teaching labs

MIT’s Global Teaching Labs (GTL) program recruits top MIT students who want to actively participate in the Institute’s experiential approach to learning. GTL challenges you to learn by teaching—synthesizing and presenting your knowledge, working in teams, and communicating with peers from different cultural backgrounds.

FAIG

An experimental program that promotes the development of project-based work linked to the challenges faced by people and the planet, integrating ‘maker’ creation processes and digital fabrication.

DIVERSITY

In order to give the best education possible to all of our students, we:- have specific attention to diversity plans. - have an attention to diversity committee. - work through mixed level groups. - foster coteaching in our classes.

EMOTIONAL EDUCATION

We consider emotional education an essential tool to grow competent and happy citizens. For this reason, our high school takes care of this part of our students' education through mindfulness activities, an emotional education subject and a mediation committee.

All of our students have activities and subjects in which they work with SEL dynamics.

MEDIATION COMMITTEE

Some of our 3rd and 4th CSE students belong to a mediation committee, a group in charge of dealing with non-violent school conflicts among students.
