Difference

Past Perfect

When to use it

the difference between the Past and the present is that the events in the past perfect also ended in the past.

I used when you talk about something that happened before something else.

It is mostly used to point out a link between the present and the past.

Examples:

Past:I had been on the train for the past 2 hours. I hadn't been to my grandmother's house in at least a year. Samantha hadn’t had time to explain her side of the story.Present: I haven't played baseball since last year. I have called many people for the party today. The children have made a mess in the kitchen

Present Perfect

How to use it?

Present: Have/Has + Past Participle (positive) Haven't/Hasn't + Past Participle (negative) Have/Has+s+Past Participle ( Question) Past: Had + Past Participle (Positive) Hadn't+ past participle (negative) Had+s+Past Participle (Question)

The present perfect is used when you need to express your experiences or memories that you have in the past that have important in the actuality.
