When to use it
the difference between the Past and the present is that the events in the past perfect also ended in the past.
I used when you talk about something that happened before something else.
It is mostly used to point out a link between the present and the past.
Examples:
Past:I had been on the train for the past 2 hours. I hadn't been to my grandmother's house in at least a year. Samantha hadn’t had time to explain her side of the story.Present: I haven't played baseball since last year. I have called many people for the party today. The children have made a mess in the kitchen

The present perfect is used when you need to express your experiences or memories that you have in the past that have important in the actuality.

When to use it
