What is the 2800 Vice Problem?

Possible Solutions Created:

The 2800 Vice's obstacle to efficiency consists in the difficulty in motion in the Sliding Jaw area, where the issue lies that the movement is not in place and loose. This presentation will help in communicating how to solve this issue.

General Process:

Aims:

To begin, the general objective desired is to either reduce or eliminate this excess of movement and the basic steps are as so:

Looking further into these inital steps, they would mould a way to find a solution to the problem provided. So, the aim of this powerpoint is to convey the process that was taken to find the remedy for the 2800 Vice problem and completing the objective.

How the process began:

As stated in my Engineering Report, a mindmap is the most efficient way to begin a process as it allows creativity to branch out and that is how I began the initial framwork in outlining the possible ideas that could help resolve the problem. This way I was able to acheive a starting point to the process.

After developing the 3 Ideas through statistical data and drawings, I had to then choose one to take forward which had to ultimately solve the issue.

After developing and looking at the pros and cons of the ideas, the idea I thought would be most suitable and effiecent was the Teenut modification.

The next step I took into the Teenut concept was the changes that needed to be made for the Tolerancing which was done by researching information.

Information from Manual sources

Comparing sources, the information collected from the books tended to be more stastically accurate due to the various checks they undergo when publishing, especially with books that contain numerical data like a Zeus Book and Engineers Blackbook. Overall, going through these sources and cross-referncing between them both allowed me to get a wide and collective gathering of information in regards to the Limits and Fits required to produce the perfect fit for the Vice. The information provided included Clearance decriptors, Diagrams, Statistical Data, Tables, Shaft and Hole tolerances and more.

Which was the most suitable?

Online source comparrsion:

When cross-referrencing to the sources online, a similar outcome was recieved although it could be seen as less reliable.

After looking at the evidence gathered the Sliding Fit was seen as the most suitable as collected from the offline sources.

What were the Final Results?

Therefore, the results extracted were that:

  • The Sliding Fit (Hole - H7/g6 and Shaft - G7/h6) tolerancing would be the appropriate fit to be applied on the Teenut and Slot
  • Using this would help to overcome the movement issues in the 2800 Vice and implement movement strictly to the direction intended within the sliding region
  • The next steps now would be to implement these results into a working piece and manufacturing the new and improved part with the tolerating applied.

Was the objective achieved?

Finally, the outcome was achieved and hopefully this presentation proved the effectiveness of both manual and online sources and going through the gradual development process. To conclude, these results can now be put into place and then tested for further feedback and development.
