Today I will be talking about Astronomy!
For those who don't know...
Astronomy is the natural science that studies celestial objects such as planets, moons, stars, nebulae, galaxies, comets and supernovas. In a nut shell, astronomy studies everything that originates beyond the Earths atmosphere.
Why do I love astronomy?
I love astronomy because of how mysterious it is. I don't know if you know but the universe is a pretty big place. Even our closest galaxy (Andromeda) is a good 2.5 million light years away from us. There is also about 125 billion galaxies and that's only in the observable universe. Inside those galaxies are billions and billions stars each seperate to their own solar system (like ours) with many planets.
But that's the thing, we don't know much about these planets. We don't know what it's like over there, if other species exist there or even if we could live there. In the universes vast darkness lays things that mankind can't even begin to understand. It's like what Heinsenberg said "Not only is the universe stranger than we think, It's stranger than we can think". Basically what I'm trying to say is that there is always more to explore in the universe and you most likely won't ever run out of things to discover in astronomy and that is what makes it very intresting.
Types of Astronomy
There are many different types of astronomy but we have catergorised them into 17 branches.
However, there is only 2 main types of astronomy: Observational and Theoretical. Obsevational astronomy is in the name, you observe the universe. We use telescopes and camaeras to look at stars, galaxies or any other astronomical object. Just recently NASA, ESA and the CSA lauched the James Webb Space Telescope. It will extend the discoveries of the Hubble Telescope and with it's major improvements it will deepen our current understandings of the cosmos.
Types of astronomy
Planetarium Director
Meteorologists
Research Scientists
Theoretical astronomy is the more analytical and computational side of it.
Climatologists
Aeronautical engineer
You know jobs like computer scientists, astrophysicists, aerospace engineers, rocket scientists etc. It could be thought of as more boring and technical but it's extremely important. Without our theories, we couldn't make any of our discoveries. Think about Newtons theory of gravity or Einsteins theory of relativity, all of these has contributed to our current knowledge of the universe.
Astronomer
Physicists
Computer engineer
Mathematician
things that you can be when you are older:
that has astronomy or space in it.
Astrophysicists
Aerospace Engineer
ASTRONAUT
I have always been very curious about the world above us and I hope one day in the future when we have improved our current technology, I get to explore that world and go to places no ones ever been before and discover new things
you would seek to understand the universe, how it works, how it began/evolved and our place in it all while applying the laws of physics like Neil DeGrasse Tyson
By understanding a rockets design, you would be able to develope structures and functions for spacecraft that would be used for space exploration like Elon Musk
There billions/trillions/countless years behind your existence and ahead of your existence and that may seem a little scary sometimes, but you're here right now in this micro, razor-thin point in time and that has to count for something.
Astronomy fact:
Despite centuries of research and all the countless of discoveries we as humanity have made and all the rockets we built and all the observations we make, No one really knows what the universe is, where it is, why it's there or who/what else live in it. We don't even know why we are here on Earth, whether it was by chance, on purpose or just a coincidence. We are literally stuck on a giant orb floating in the middle of no where so its okay to feel a lost sometimes.
Thank You for listening :)
