PART 1
The author expressed his dissatisfaction with the lack of involvement of the people in the internal struggle, judging the frenzy of combat that the men felt when they went to war, forgetting the affairs of the country, because this song was written during the Vietnam war, in which the United States had been involved for 8 years, and the money of the people was mainly used for the expenses of the war. The music talk about the war and the soldiers who are fighting during the war but don't know why they are fighting.

PART 2
The country was suffering from a number of problems that were identified in the song, such as racism, in the South of the country. It is true that in that year, 1963, there was a revolt against segregation, the separation of whites and blacks, and one of the other problems cited by the author is the homeless, victims of police violence. In the music, the singer talk about slavery: ""oh there's many kinds of slavery [...]". He is talking about the governement too, who is not honest: "As they stand there right before you and lie into your face".

PART 3
Phil Ochs seeks to alert his listener to the inconsistency of the state's actions through his words. He denounces the irresponsibility of the state in the face of inequality, racist behavior and other. He also denounces the inaction of the State in terms of social solutions but the eagerness of the State when it comes to deploying his entire population for a cause that in truth is not specific to the needs of the country, the war. It is not normal to want to solve problems that do not directly concern our own population while many troubles arise on our own territory.

PART 4
He defends his opinion by saying "If you'll win the wars at home, there'll be no fighting anymore", which means that if the plagues that fall on a territory are solved, there would be no more real reasons to fight because the world would be at peace because everyone would live in good condition and in harmony with each other.this sentence hides a utopian message giving hope to give back courage to fight against just causes and not waste time in wars
