Rules of Good Conduct on the Internet

Like any society or association of people, the Internet community could not function without some rules of good or otherwise good behavior called Netiquette.

By Anna Kordi 9th Primary School of Chalkis

Netiquette

The term Netiquette comes from the synthesis of the words network and etiquette and is freely rendered as a Network Protocol. Protocol in the sense of the code of acceptable social and / or formal conduct, a set of rules that defines how people should behave when online.

Rules

Remember the Human When you are online, it is sometimes easy to forget the human. That is, the people you are interacting with online are real humans and not disembodied usernames or profile pictures.

01

Rules

Do not share personal information. Keep personal information about yourself private. This includes information about your family members, your school, your telephone number, and your address.

02

Rules

Be careful what you write or upload. Think twice before you post or say anything online. Once it is in cyberspace, it is there for ever. Do not post anything that you would not want your family, other students, teachers, or current and future employers to see!

03

Rules

Respect other people's time and data limits When you post anything online, write an email or share a post it will take other people's time to read. "it's your responsibility to ensure that the time they spend reading your posting isn't wasted".

04

Rules

Connect with care. Do not click on links or open emails from people you do not know. Cyber criminals use emails and links that look okay to lure people into clicking. If you think an offer is too good to be true, it probably isn't.

05

Rules

Use strong passwords. Try not to use the same password for multiple sites. Make passwords strong and change them often.

06

Rules

Keep your belongings safe. Lock your computer and mobile phone.

07

Rules

Be a good online citizen. Understand that how you treat people online should be the same as how you treat them in person. Be careful what you post or say about others.

08

Rules

Speak up! If you see something bad or inappropriate online, are contacted by someone you do not know or do not want to talk to, or see cyber-bullying take place, do not try to retaliate or get involved. Talk to a trusted adult and work together to solve the problem
