Background

  • Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the entire education system had to adjust to the situation within a short period of time after the quarantine was declared.
  • Lithuanian vocational schools faced a huge challenge, and were looking for solutions to adapt as quickly as possible to changes, and be able to teach subjects smartly and productively.
  • Blended learning, where virtual lessons are remotely combined with classroom practice, has become a great solution for organizing the educational process.
  • In order to carry it out smoothly, the importance of teachers' digital competences has increased.

Background

  • When education moved to a virtual space or when blended learning is roganized, teacher needs to orient your content much more creatively and smartly.
  • Pre-recorded video lessons for students, various interactive tasks are a great way to prepare your educational materials.
  • As a result of their introduction into school education systems, they become available to every learner.
  • Modern technologies offer many opportunities for teachers to present teaching content, but not everyone knows how to create digital content.

Blended learning at Kėdainiai VETC

  • General subjects: one week students were taught by contact, the other week – remotely.
  • Vocational subjects: practical subjects were taught at school, theory - remotely.
  • Practical training was divided into subgroups.
  • One teacher conducts practical training until 11:00 with one subgroup up to 14 pupils.
  • Then premises are ventilated and disinfected for up to one hour.
  • The other teacher conducts practical training from 12:00 to 14:30 with the other subgroup.

Blended learning at Kėdainiai VETC

  • Students with special educational needs: attended contact lessons during the pandemic time, while the other students had distant learning.
  • Students from disadvantaged families were also able to attend school in order to receive technical and educational support.
  • Several hybrid classrooms were installed at Kedainiai VETC.

Tools for blended learning

  • Edmodo is among very useful tool for blended learning. It can be used to framework assignments and resources for the classroom. Teachers can make post for their student just like on Facebook. Educators can organise students into groups at Edmodo.
  • Manodienynas there are different types of electronic registers. Our institution uses manodienynas. Teachers upload learning materials, send information to students, their parents, class teachers, administration staff. Everyone has logins, so they can respond effectively and quickly to problems during contact, blended and distance learning.
  • Liveworksheets transforms traditional printable worksheets into self-correcting interactive exercises that the students can do online and send to the teacher.

Tools for blended learning

Eduka: Interesting interactive tests prepared by professionals according to the textbook material. Teacher can use a bank of digital tasks or create the selected type of tasks, tests according to the level of students. Eduka also has more than 400 digital textbooks. Teacher can create groups and subdivide students. Teacher also receives the feedback.EMA (Elektroninė Mokymosi Aplinka): is an electronic learning environment that allows use available material for differentiation and individualisation of the teaching/learning process and provides an interactive motivation system. The electronic learning environment is designed for students learning to study general subjects. Youtube: teachers film their lessons, especially practical lessons of vocational subjects upload them on Youtube and students are able to watch them and analyze. Tools for video communication: Zoom and Microsoft teams.

  • Quizizz is designed to help students to participate in group activities and study by themselves.
  • Assigments can be both completed live together with the whole class or assigned as homework.
