Hi! I’m Tom. I’m 13 years old, and I live in Australia. I like playing football with my friends. I run fast and kick the ball into the goal. I also like watching football on TV. My favorite team wears red shirts.I like eating hamburgers and French fries. I also like chocolate cake with candles on top. My favorite drink is orange juice. I don’t like reading books. I like looking at pictures, but I don’t want to read a lot of words. I don’t like cleaning my room. I want to play instead. I don’t like cats. I think they look angry. I like big dogs better. On Sunday, I go to the beach. I swim in the sea and play in the sand.

My name is Sofia. I’m 10 years old, and I live in Spain. I have two sisters and one little brother. I like singing songs and dancing in front of the mirror. I go to dance class on Saturday mornings.I like eating spaghetti with tomato sauce. I also like sweet apples and red strawberries. My favorite color is pink. I have pink shoes and a pink backpack. But I don’t like running. I don’t like fish because it smells strange. I also don’t like walking in the rain. My shoes get wet! At school, I like English class because we sing songs and learn words. I also like painting with bright colors.

How to use

The aim of these activities is to practice speaking and asking questions as well as listening about likes and dislikes. The students get a lot of activities that support talking about what they like or don't like. All the activities are organized in such a way so that ss could work in pairs or create individual presentations on the topic. The set also contains a lot of practice on asking questions to support one of the most problematic aspects for students.
FIRST TALK - This activity is a simple warm-up for students to review both different activities as well as different items. Ss need to produce basic sentences: I like... / I don't like ...' ASK YOUR FRIEND - This is a pair work activity in which ss need to find out what their friend likes by asking basic questions and sorting the items. Tell ss to pick from 7-10 items and ask ss to place them next to their character. Then tell them to ask their friends: "Do you like..." to find out what the other person picked. Extension - At the end of the activity, ask ss to present the choices of their friend to the class or write them down in correct sentences. LISTEN AND PICK - listening comprehension - tell ss to listen to the people and sort the items into correct categories. Extension - ask ss to present the correct answers or write them down.
READ AND PICK - reading comprehension - ss need to read about people's likes and dislikes and sort the images into the correct categories. WHAT DOES YOUR FRIEND LIKE? - this activity helps ss both ask questions and create longer oral presentations about their likes and dislikes, however, this time their answers are limited. One ss picks board 1 and by clicking the button picks what he/she likes. The other ss picks board 2 and needs to ask what their friend likes or doesn't like. Based on the answers this ss must find the same images. Then change the roles. Extension - when they have finished, the ss can present back to others what they found out or write everything down.
