What is Bill 124 and how is it affecting Ontario's nurses and public-sector workers?

summary of news article

The Ford government implemented it in 2019 to "ensure that increases in public sector compensation reflect the financial condition of the province," according to the government. The Bill caps regular annual salary increases for nurses at 1% for each 12-month period.

The annual increase of 1% does not keep up with inflation and may result in skilled workers leaving their profession.

Ontario’s nurses and public-sector workers are getting a raw deal on pay. Despite a pandemic as well as multiple protests and campaigns, Bill 124 remains in effect.

Staffing shortages are so severe that Ontarians' health care is put at risk if current conditions remain.

This is an unfair gender-based wage as it only impacts nurses and teachers. Whereas this Bill exempts municipalities, police, firefighters and MPP.
