ed and ing in adjectives

imagine the following situation

  • You have been studying all night for an important exam
  • You bungee jumped for the first time yesterday
  • You didn’t win a competition you took part in

ehausted tired excited disappointed surprised demotivated motivated frightened amused tired

adjectives with ed

ED in adjectives are used to talk about people`s feelings or opinions

ED in adjectives are usually followed by a preposition such as: in, with of, about, by

for example: I am interested in movies Gabriela is excited about her vacations Juan is annoyed with a friend of mine

adjectives with ing

ing in adjectives are used to talk about situations, activities, things or people that make us feel in a certain way

for example: Movies are interesting Mr. Mario classes are boring this song is depressing

ing vs ed

Ed is how we feel and ing is how something make us feel

for example bored vs boring You are watching a really long film where nothing happens. The film is BORING. How do you feel? You feel BORED. You meet your neighbour and she tells you the same story about her cat all over again. The neighbour is a BORING person. You feel BORED.
