Process of Pasta

The word "pasta" comes from Italian pasta, Greek παστά (pasta) "barley porridge".

Pasta is a type of food made from a wheat flour dough that was either mixed with water or eggs. It would then be formed into sheets or other shapes and then cooked by baking or boiling.

Pastas are divided into two broad categories: dried and fresh. Both dried and fresh pastas come in a number of shapes and varieties. Common forms of pasta include long and short shapes, tubes, flat shapes or sheetsm nubuatyre shapes for soup, those meant to be filled or stuffed, and specialty or decorative shapes.

Who Invented Pasta?

Some historians believe pasta originated in Italy, however, there is some speculation that it was brought over from China. The earliest known pasta was made from rice flour. While in Italy, pasta was made from wheat.

When noodles had reached the Mediterranean, the process of creating noodles was refined, and chose to use wheat because of its high gluten content and long shelf life.

During the late 19th century, when a large group of immigrants relocated from Italy to America, pasta became more common within the United States.
