«Disciplinar» no significa «castigar» sino «enseñar». El castigo coacciona el comportamiento, usando fuerzas externas, provocando daños y humillaciones, creando al final traumas potencialmente crecientes. Mientras que la disciplina cultiva el control interno, promueve un comportamiento educado y sociable por el bien de toda la comunidad educativa. Por ello, es necesario modificar nuestra mentalidad de la disciplina, abordándola con una mentalidad restaurativa, como lo muestra el cuadro abajo.
