The simple past tense shows that you are talking about something that has already happened
Something that start in the past and ends in the past...
REGULAR VERBS

We add "ED or "D"
If the verb ends on a short vowel + a consonant we double this consonant and we add "ED" STOP -STOPPED
If the verb ends in "Y" , we will replace "Y" for "I" and add "ED"
If a verb ends up in "E" we should just add a "D" HATE - HATED

We can also use the simple past to talk about a past state of being, such as the way someone felt about something. This is often expressed with the simple past tense of the verb to be (WAS and WERE) goo My brother was proud of his soccer game victory.
