SOCIAL CONSTRUCTIVISM
Principal definition
Model based on constructivism, that dictates that knowledge, in addition to being formed from enviornment-self relationships, is the sum of the social enviornment factor to education.
Principles of constructivism
- Knowledge is built upon other knowledge.
- Learning is a social activity, associated with the interaction with other people.
- Learning is an active process, therefore it cannot be limited.
Positive and negative aspects
- It helps to facilitate the learner's own understanding of the learning process and develops mental strategies.
- It also helps to create clear concepts and optimal structures to guide the learner in considering what is relevant to a topic.
- If there is no interaction and communication in a classroom, the teaching and learning process cannot take place.
- It eliminates standardized assessments, so as teachers we would not be able to know which student is struggling.
Description of a class based on the approach
- Language is the most important aspect of learning
- The focus tends to shift from the teacher to the students.
- Based on the development of skills and abilities, so that learning is continuous and meaningful
