SOCIAL CONSTRUCTIVISM

Principal definition

Model based on constructivism, that dictates that knowledge, in addition to being formed from enviornment-self relationships, is the sum of the social enviornment factor to education.

Principles of constructivism

  • Knowledge is built upon other knowledge.
  • Learning is a social activity, associated with the interaction with other people.
  • Learning is an active process, therefore it cannot be limited.

Positive and negative aspects

  1. It helps to facilitate the learner's own understanding of the learning process and develops mental strategies.
  2. It also helps to create clear concepts and optimal structures to guide the learner in considering what is relevant to a topic.
  1. If there is no interaction and communication in a classroom, the teaching and learning process cannot take place.
  2. It eliminates standardized assessments, so as teachers we would not be able to know which student is struggling.

Description of a class based on the approach

  • Language is the most important aspect of learning
  • The focus tends to shift from the teacher to the students.
  • Based on the development of skills and abilities, so that learning is continuous and meaningful
