What is Stress?

  • Stress is the feeling of being overwhelmed or unable to cope with mental or emotional pressure.
  • Can be defined as our mental, physical reaction to any perceived demands which we have a lack of resources to cope up with, that what made us stressed out
  • A part of our daily life,

What Causes Stress?

  • Stressor can be external or internal, excessive worrying about something or irrational pessimistic thoughts about life is consider a self-generated stress.
  • Examples:
    • Major life changes
    • Work
    • Financial stress
    • Caregiver stress
  • We think stressors are always negative but it can be positive.
  • Anything the puts a high demands on you can be stressful.

Positive or Negative?

Stress is the feeling of being overwhelmed or unable to cope with mental or emotional pressure.

Positive Stress

  • Positive stress, or eustress , is that stressthat encourages us to face problems.
  • It allows us to be creative,take initiative and respond efficiently to those situations that require it.

How Stress Can be Positive?

  • Direct handling of the problem.
Ex: Retiring
  • Positive effect on our health.
  • Greater productive activity.
Ex : getting married , having a child, starting a new job , Receiving a promotion at work and Buying a house.
  • Emotional stability.
  • Stimulate our creativity
  • We are alert

Negative Stress

  • Stress becomes negative ("distress") when a person faces continuous challenges, without relief or relaxation betweenchallenges.
  • As a result, the person becomes overworkedand stress-related tension builds.

How Stress Can be Negative?

  • The bad form of stress
  • You may not be able to handle some situations.
  • Reducing productivity and creativity
  • High percentage of doctor visits
  • Relationship problems too
  • Bad health conditions
