Shallow Earthquakes
Are those earthquakes whose focus does not go beyond 70 kilometers deep. Generally these earthquakes are the most destructive, since it has a more direct impact with the earth's surface. Shallow earthquakes are also the most frequent and generally the hypocenter is located between 10 and 25 kilometers deep.
intermediate earthquakes
The focus occurs at a depth between 70 and 300 kilometers deep.
deep earthquakes
These seismic events have their focus outside the limits of the lithosphere, more than 300 kilometers deep. They are almost imperceptible due to the distance from the earth's surface and they are also less frequent, drastically decreasing in frequency when the focus is below 650 kilometers. These types of earthquakes are called Bathysisms.
