INTRODUCTION: DIFFERENCE BETWEEN DIRECT AND REPORTED SPEECH
Direct speech: "We lived in Australia for five years", he said. In direct speech we use the same words that the person said. We use commas. Reported or indirect speech: He said that they had lived in Australia for five years. In reported speech, we tell what another person said before. We DON'T use commas.
