+info
They should be here by now. (expectation). It's a very short survey. It shouldn't take long (negative form).
You can use any subject, place “should” after the subject but before the base verb.
4. The dentist shouldn't keep you waiting too long.5. Your children shouldn't eat a lot of junk food, in stead of veagetables and fruit.
1. You shouldn’t watch a lot of TV. (recommendation/advice) 2. She should not buy that old car. (recommendation/advice) 3. He shouldn’t arrive at home until tomorrow. (expectation)
Should not or Shouldn’t just puts the sentence in the negative form. So you are NOT recommending something, NOT advising something, NOT expecting something or “It’s not a good idea.” For example:
Where --- we park our car? You --- never speak to your mother like this. The kids --- spend so much time in front of the TV. --- I tell her the truth or should I say nothing? I think we --- reserve our holiday in advance.
- You --- be so selfish.
- I don't think you --- smoke so much.
- You --- exercise more. I think you --- try to speak to her.
- You are overweight. You --- go on a diet.
PRACTICE: Write Should or Shouldn't.
