The Gender gap
From birth, girls, and boys, men and women are expected to play specific roles by society and behave in certain ways. These learned behaviors and so-called ‘ideals’ are what shaped gender norms found today. The gender gap has been reflected in humanity; it can be found in educational attainment where the men are expected to hold the better performance. Girls in developing countries were pulled out of school when they hit puberty because they were considered ready for marriage, while boys still enjoyed theirs. The gap can also be found in economic participation, including the 13.9 percent wage gap. Despite having the same qualifications and working the same number of hours, women are paid less than men. Full-time working women earn 77 percent of what full-time men earn Another example is denying health or medical care because they were women. After all, they were considered uncivilized by people to an opinion because they were ‘uneducated’.

Unfortunately, many of the things she wished to improve stayed thesame, but one thing that jumped out was that just 30% of her audience was male. How can change be elicited if only half of it feels welcome to participate in the conversation? To those men who feel distant, unable to express their emotions because of society’s standards towards men.
