PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

Building Construction Technology is a three credit hour class that includes classroom, lab and jobsite experience in architectural design, installation, maintenance and repair of residential homes and commercial buildings. Instruction will cover a variety of activities such as estimating, measuring, cutting, fitting, and installing finish materials. Math, reading, writing, and speaking skills will be emphasized so students can learn to communicate effectively.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

Electrical Technology includes classroom and laboratory experiences that incorporate training in the areas of residential wiring, commercial/industrial wiring, and electric motors/controls with a heavy emphasis on safety. Instructional practices for construction are based on the The National Center for Construction Education & Research curriculum and The Electrical Training Alliance's Interim Credentials program. Subject matter includes experiences that incorporate theory and laboratory work as it relates to the following: planning functions, generating and transmitting electricity, installing and maintaining electrical systems(equipment and components). Safety is discussed on a daily basis to address work tasks, potential hazards, and protective measures.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technology I and II provide students with classroom and laboratory experiences concerned with heat generation, ventilation, air conditioning and cooling/refrigeration systems. Instruction emphasizes proficiency in the design, development, testing, and installation of the various system with learning experiences focused on the operation and trouble-shooting of equipment, including the controls needed for residential and commercial use. Course content also includes instruction in blueprint reading, the use of technical reference manuals, the diagnosis and repair of malfunctions, and the use of hand tools and machines to fabricate sheet metal items made of steel, copper, stainless steel, and aluminum.

The Computer Science course covers a wide variety of topics ranging from computer logic, data structure, software development, and so much more. There are many different programming languages these students will be exposed to like Blockly, Python, Java, SQL, HTML5 with JS, and many others. Along with programming Python scripts, websites, Android applications, and many other types of programs; we will explore industry demanding topics like data analytics, game design, cyber security, cloud infrastructures, etc. Throughout the course students will have the opportunity to utilize industry tools like Android Studio, GitHub, Visual Studio Code, Raspberry Pi, Linux, and many more. This course is designed to assist any student in their pursuit of a computer technology related industry.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

The Architecture & Engineering Design Technology program at the Southern Indiana Career & Technical Center is designed to prepare students to enter a two or four-year university degree in the fields of either architecture, multiple fields of engineering, technology, interior design, and construction management. Topics covered in the program include, but not limited to, architectural design concepts for residential and commercial structures, mechanical engineering design concepts, computer-aided design/drafting software (AutoCAD, Revit, and SolidWorks), building construction knowledge related to residential and commercial structures, geometric dimensioning and tolerances, basic surveying, CNC programming and basic operation. During the first year of the program, students will experience both the architecture and engineering topics. The second year of the program students can specialize in either architectural design, mechanical design or digital electronics.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

Students will acquire the fundamentals of information and data security and understand the vulnerability most organizations have in their security systems with an emphasis on firewalls, security plans and Virtual Private Networks (VPNs). Discussions will include data security methods, authentication, network attacks, malicious code and viruses, wireless security, email and web security and disaster recovery. This course will also focus on the managerial aspects of information security and assurance. Topics covered include access control models, information security governance, and information security program assessment and metrics. Coverage on the foundational and technical components of information security is included to reinforce key concepts, such as security planning and contingencies, security policies, security management models and practices and ethics.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

​This 2-year program offers students the opportunity to obtain a foundation in Anatomy & Physiology, Medical Terminology, and Professional Healthcare exploration through careers in medicine, nursing, dentistry, physical and occupational therapy to name a few. Students become familiar with basic patient care skills used in all areas of healthcare, practice professionalism, communication and employability skills, and work through learning labs in a variety of disciplines such as, Forensics, Imaging, Dental, Cardiac and more. Students can earn certifications in American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, National Health Association - Certified Clinical Medical Assistant, HIPPA - Career Safe and OSHA 10 hours - Career Safe. Students develop laboratory and office skills and complete a ten-week clinical observation in two career areas at the end of the second year.

Criminal Justice

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

Criminal Justice I introduces students to law enforcement and criminal justice. Classroom instruction explores the history of the U.S. criminal justice system and courtroom structure. CJ1 also provides the students with hands-on experience in police operations such as vehicle stops. The students are shown the importance of cultural awareness in the Criminal Justice field. Criminal Justice II introduces the students to the theories of Criminology. The students then enter the criminal investigation portion of the course. The students will have hands-on experience in mock crime scene scenarios. The students will process a crime scene starting with photography, and ending with the collection of DNA, narcotics collection, and trace evidence such as glass, hairs, and fibers.

Veterinary Sciences provides students with an overview of the field of veterinary science. Students participate in a large variety of activities and laboratory work including real and simulated veterinary science experiences and projects. Areas that the students study may be applied to both livestock and companion animals. Topics to be addressed include: anatomy and physiology, genetics, reproduction and biotechnology, nutrition, office and hospital management, careers in veterinary science and animal science, animal health, meeting environmental requirements of animals, and management practices for the care and maintenance of animals. The students will also learn many skills that are common veterinary assistant requirements in a veterinary office or hospital.

This is a 2-year program that offers students the opportunity to gain knowledge and skills they will need in fields that assist patients with maintaining physical, mental, and emotional health. Students in this course will understand diet and exercise, as well as techniques to help patients recover from injury, illness, and disease. They will also learn about introductory health science topics such as employability skills, lifespan development, and ethical and legal standards. Students will learn basic kinesiology concepts to understand body mechanics and physiological functions of muscle movements.

Automotive Collision Repair Technology

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

Collision Repair is offered to juniors and seniors. This course allows students to develop skills in all aspects of automotive collision repair. Junior instruction begins with minor collision repair, followed by a complete refinishing (painting) course. Senior instruction consist of replacing sheet metal panels and repairing major collision damage, along with supportive activities in collision repair. The course objective is to educate students in academics, develop leadership, work ethics, and hands on skills in the collision repair industry so they may continue their post-secondary education or become employed in the collision repair industry or related areas.

Automotive Service Technology

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

The Automotive Service program is a two year program designed to prepare students either to enter the automotive repair industry workforce in an entry level position or to prepare them for post-secondary training in the automotive industry. The program is ASE/NATEF certified in 7 areas, including: brakes, steering and suspension, engine repair, engine performance, heating and air conditioning, electrical/electronic systems and manual drivetrains and axles. Training is divided between classroom and laboratory experiences that incorporate theory of operation, service and repair of the various automotive systems. Also students will learn and utilize service and repair software and become familiar with automotive suppliers and acquiring repair parts, as well as repair order preparation and billing.

Diesel Service Technology

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

Diesel Service Technology is a two year course designed for high school juniors and seniors. The training program is Master Accredited by ASE/NATEF. Areas of Accreditation include Diesel Engines, Drive Train, Electrical/Electronic Systems, Brakes, Heating & Air Conditioning, Preventive Maintenance Inspection, and Suspension & Steering. We cover all the systems on a vehicle, not just engines. Training is divided between the classroom and lab. We are equipped with high quality tools and equipment for the students to learn with. They will have access to internet based factory service information. We use the same systems that technicians in the field use.
