Dear Diary, I've been awake since 3am. It's been a rough week working at the cotton mill. Ma's told me I have to keep working there wise we won't have nothing to eat. Day after day it's the same tiredless work I can't seem to keep my eyes open recently. My fingers are bruised and bloody, I got them trapped in one of the metal machines the other day. I've never cried so hard in my life! Master Thomas who owns the factory smacked for crying. Told me to get back to work. After that, I spent the whole day with hot tears streaming down my face, quietly sobbing scared to get a second lashing. Sometimes, just like today we spend the whole day running up and down the factory trying to retie the thread that snaps. I'm not as fast as my friends, my shoes have holes in and my feet are covered in blisters. I don't know how much more I can take, but I've got no choice. I hope one day I can be one of those kids I see outside the factory. The ones that spend their days playing football and riding the new invention of the bike in their new, shiny shoes. The ones who have paper bags full of fresh pies. I know I'll be dreaming of that tonight. I hope to write tomorrow but my fingers are so swollen like sausages. See you, Annie.
