AsexUal reproduction in plants
Asexual reproduction produces plants that are genetically identical to the parent plant because no mixing of male and female gametes takes place. There are several methods of asexual reproduction such as vegetative propagation, budding, fragmentation and spore formation.
Vegetative Propagation
It is any form of asexual reproduction occurring in plants in which a new plant grows from a fragment or cutting of the parent plant or a specialized reproductive structure. It occurs in leaves, roots and stems. Since
reproduction is through the vegetative
parts of the plant, it is known as
vegetative propagation.
Budding
Budding is a type of asexual reproduction where the new organism (offspring) grows as an outgrowth from the body of the parent. Here, the new individual starts growing as a small body on one side of the parent organism and continues growing in size while still attached to the parent.
Fragmentation
Fragmentation is a form of asexual reproduction where a fragment of the parent breaks off and develops into an entirely new but genetically identical individual. The parent will then regenerate, or regrow, the piece that broke off, so in the end there are two new individuals from one.
Spore formation
Spore Formation is a method in Asexual Reproduction. Many Spores are stored in sacs called Sporangia. When Sporangia burst; minute single-celled, thin or thick walled structures called spores are obtained. Under suitable conditions, they develop into a new plant.
