Introduction
Introduction
Malorie Blackman OBE is a British writer whom uses science fiction to bring out the theme of ethnics and related social issues. She is an influential human being who uses not just her voice but her writing to depict society and to help educate those who may have not been fully educated on the variety of problems that society toxically maintains.
Early life and job paths
Malorie was born in Clapham, London to her parents whom were both born and raised in Barbados
When she reached her early twenties her new true passion in life was writing books but it was not as easy journey to fulfill her new dream as a writer.
Growing up as a child she dreamt to be an English teacher however failed to become one as she grew up to become an IT systems programmer instead.
A long and hard-working path of facing 62 rejections from publishers, she finally had secured a book deal for her first book she had been working on.
writing, books and awards
She then went on to become an award-winning British author and dramatist, described by the “Times” newspaper as a ‘national treasure’. Malorie is now a major voice in children's publishing, having held the post of children's laureate from 2013 to 2015. She is best known for her bestselling novels, including Naughts and Crosses - which went on to become a series to include. Knife Edge, Checkmate and Double Cross. She has also written for stage and television including writing scripts for the classic children's television series Biker Grove, which stared Ant and Dec.
My Verdict
- A main subject that Malorie is known for is that she coveys several messages and morals throughout her writing. Picking up on social injustices and how toxic society can be when it comes to many sensitive subjects that some may have experienced. She portrays different struggles and issues in a unique way creating an unexpected yet revolutionary turn on many cultural issues, which society upholds particularly racism and discrimination.
A notable example of a way that Malorie paralleled social injustices was when she had written Naughts and crosses. As the book is a turn on modern day society appealing to those whom are invested in a book where roles are reversed from the history that we know today whilst also focusing on the struggle the black community is confronted with presently. Creating a dystopia including peripetia and hamartia that all come to be within this tragedy, where many social problems had been portrayed in the characters. Similarly, the book also focuses on the black community's struggle with discrimination in order to characterize the novel as an allegory for the civil rights movement which took place in America in the 20th century. She is a female who brings a distinctive and individual way representing the biggest issues society is facing to this day, specifically racism. As she bring many struggles that she is identified with and place them into her writing for others to learn or relate to.
My verdict carried on (sorry if its a bit boring)
