Weathering, Erosion & Deposition Unit 3

Deposition

Weathering

Deposition happens when sediment is deposited (or placed) in a new area. This creates new landforms, like sand dunes.

There are 2 types of weathering. Mechanical (physical), and chemical.Through mechnical weather, rock can be broken by water, wind, and ice. Both of these forms destroy the original rock .

Erosion

Crash Coarse Kids

Erosion is the movement of sediment from one place to another.Agents of erosion include water, waves, gravity, ice,and wind. They all move sediment to new places and destroy the original landform.

Need some more review? Check out the Weathering and Erosion video from Crash Course Kids explaining the difference between the two.

Forms of EnergyUnit 4

What are they?

Energy Uses

There are 5 differenf forms of energy. We use the acronym MELTS to help us remember these forms. What does each letter stand for?

Multiple forms of energy can be used by a single object. When I reheat food, I am using multiple forms of energy to heat my food back up.

Energy Transfer

BrainPOP Video

Energy may be transfered between objects. When I turn on a light, electrical energy is being transfered to light energy.

Force and Motion Unit 4

Force and Motion Games

What are the types?

Practice working with forces in this PhET exploration online. Practice force, motion, acceleration, and friction.

There are 2 main types of forces. Although, we could say gravity, friction, and magnetism could be categorized in the 2 main categories. We used Newtons to measure forces.

Newton's Laws

Need some more review? Check out the Newton's Laws of Motion video on BrainPOP. Let me know if you don't remember to login info.

Newton has 3 Laws that help us understand forces. Objects may be at rest until moved, come to rest when a force acts upon them, and even move at different speeds depending on the force used and their mass.

Circuits, Conductors & Insulators Unit 4

Thermal VS Electrical

Types of circuits

Some materials are electrical conductors, but do not conduct thermal energy. Glass is an electrical insulator, but a thermal conductor.

We discussed open and clsoed citcuits this year. An open circuit is not complate (because there is an opening) and a closed circuit is complete.

Conductors VS Insulators

During an investigation, we explored different materials to see which would be conductors, and which would be insulators. These were electrical conductors.
